يهتم هذا الكتاب ، الذي يعتمد مقاربة كميّة ونوعية ، بموقع الدين في المعيش التونسي اليومي ، وذلك من خلال محاولة الحفر في السلوك الديني الشبابي من جوانب متعددة ومختلفة قصد الإحاطة بالدينامية الداخلية للتدين الشبابي ومحدداته .
كما يندرج هذا العمل ضمن علم اجتماع الدين وعلم اجتماع الشباب ، حيث ركزت آمال موسى على فئة الشباب تحديداً بسبب الأهمية الديمغرافية للفئة الشبابية في المجتمع التونسي إذ تمثّل قرابة الثلث علاوة على كونها فيما يبدو من أكثر الفئات الديمغرافية والإجتماعية امتلاكاً للأجوبة التي تبحث عنها إشكالية الكتاب وفرضياته . فهي فئة رئيسة في أي عملية من عمليات التغيير الاجتماعي ، وتمثل مرحلة الشباب الإطار الأمثل للبناء الرمزي للهوية الذاتية والإجتماعية والثقافية ما يعني أنها مرحلة عمرية ذات ديناميكية قابلة للملاحظة والقياس بحكم انشغال هذه الفئة أكثر من غيرها بسؤال الهوية وأكثر تفاعلية وتأثراً بمكوناتها .
ففي ضوء هذه الإعتبارات اهتم البحث بتحليل محدّدات علاقة الشباب التونسي بالدين ؛ أي ما الذي يحدد طبيعة ممارسة الشباب التونسي للدين في المعيش اليومي ؟ وما هو تأثير الأطر الاجتماعية ودور مرجعيات الإسلام العائلي والشعبي والعالم والرسمي في تشكيل السلوك الديني للشباب التونسي ؟ وإلى أي حد يمكن أن تستبطن الممارسة اليومية للدين مضامين إحتجاجية بالمعنى السياسي ، أو أنها تعبر عن دوافع متصلة بالإكراهات التي تثقل الواقع الاقتصادي للشباب التونسي ؟
وأيضاً لم تغفل الباحثة عن تناول مسألة الطقوسية وتمظهرات الديني في التعبيرات الجسدية .
