هذا كتاب عن عجائب المخلوقات وغرائب الموجودات، ألفه زكريا بن محمد بن محمود المعروف بالقزويني، المولود في مدينة قزوين لأحد الفقهاء الذي استوطنوا المدينة، وينتهي نسبه إلى أنس بن مالك خادم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ولقد عمد القزويني في هذا الكتاب إلى جمع الكثير من الغرائب والعجائب والحكايات المغرقة في الإدهاش، و"حرص على تقييدها لتثبت، وكره الذهول عنها مخافة أن تفلت"، وقال عنها: "إنها، وإن كنت بعيدة عن العادات المعهودة، لكن لا يُستعظم شيء مع قدرة الخالق، وجميع ما فيه إما عجائبُ صنع الباري، وذلك إما معقولٌ أو محسوسٌ لا شكَّ فيها، وإما حكايةٌ ظريفةٌ منسوبةٌ إلى روائها".
يحفل مصنف القزويني هذا بذكر العجائب والغرائب، بكل ما تزخر به من معاني التهويل وخرق العادة والمألوف، وهو ينتمي إلى نمط من السرود العربية القديمة المعنية بتوثيق ما أبدعته المخيلة العربية، داخل محيطها الإجتماعي والسياسي - من حكاياتٍ وأخبارٍ، تنبو عن المعتاد، وتعود في معظمها إلى مخيلة كاتبها الممتزجة مع الخيال الجمعي للذاكرة الشعبية، وغريب ما احتفظت به من روايات.
