تُعدُّ مسألةُ العنايةِ بالتراث العربي – بمختلف معارفهِ – من المسائل التي حظيت بإهتمام القدماء والمحدثين، لِكونها شديدةَ الصلة بنتاج حضاريّ وعلميّ كبير، هو مُحصِّلةُ إرث الأمة المحفوظ وذخرها الثابت، الذي جعلتهُ عدَّة أو ذخيرةً لمستقبلها، يوصِل حاضرها بماضيها.
والتحقيقُ مِن أول موجبات تلك العناية بالتراث، وبه يُسعى إلى نشرهِ والتعريف به، وتقويم مناده وإخراجه على ما تركه مؤلفوهُ، أو أقرب إلى ذلك، بإستخدام الوسائل الحديثة، ليقدِّم مادة صحيحة موثقة إلى الدراسات التي تؤلِّف فيما بعد.
ولقد كانتْ لي سابقةٌ في تحقيقِ جملةٍ من النصوص الشعرية، بطريقة الصنعة، ثم حقَّقتُ على أربعة أصول خطيّة (ديوان سيف الدين المشد، ت 656هـ، دراسة وتحقيق وتذييل) موضوعاً لرسالتي للماجستير، وكتبتُ كثيراً من المقالات النقدية في نقد تحقيق عدَدٍ من النصوص المُحققة، ودرّستُ قواعدَهُ، ثم رأيتُ نفسي طُلعةً إلى دراسةِ جهودهم وَمَنَاهِجِهِمْ فيها.
إنَّ هذا الكتاب يدرس جهودَ العراقيين في تحقيق النصوص الأدبية واللغوية ونقدها، ويحلل مناهجهم، ويشمل ما حققَهُ العراقيون داخل العراق أو خارجه، وصدر في كتب أو مجلات، أو في الرسائل والأطاريح الجامعية، حتى نهاية عام 2009م، ولا يشمل ذلك غير العراقيين، ويشملُ كذلك جهودهم في نقد التحقيق، في نقده لإخوانهم أو لغيرهم، وقد قدَّمتُ دراسةَ النّصوص (الأدبية) على (اللّغوية) لِكثرتها وتنوعها، خلافاً للغوية.
