صنف محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، كتاباً فريداً من نوعه، جمع فيه الحديث الصحيح بطريقة تدهش العقول، ومزج فيه بين الفقه والأصول، فنال هذا الكتاب إعجاب علماء المسلمين، فانكبوا عليه دراسةً وشرحاً وتعليقاً.
هذا، وقد شرح الجامع الصحيح في مؤلفاتٍ عديدةٍ بلغت نحو مئتي شرح، وكان من أهم هذه الشروح "التوضيح لشرح الجامع الصحيح" لعالم من أكثر علماء المسلمين تصنيفاً، المحدث الفقيه "إبن الملقّن" ، الذي شرح البخاري بكتابٍ ضخم يزيد على ثلاثين مجلداً في وقتٍ طويل يزيد على العشرين عاماً، فكانت هذه الدراسة للأستاذ أحمد محمد أرحيم لواحد من نخبة كتب المسلمين وأصحها بعد كتاب الله تعالى في رسالة علمية.
في ضوء ما يوضح مؤلف الكتاب مكانة هذا الشرح بين شروح الصحيح، واهتمام "إبن الملقن" بدراسة الأسانيد وطرقها وعللها، وبيان مختلف الحديث، وجمع الأحاديث المتعارضة والتوفيق بينها، ومن ثم دراسة "إبن الملقن" للأحاديث المنتقدة في صحيح البخاري، وإجابته عنها.
يتالف الكتاب من باب تمهيدي وثلاثة أبواب رئيسية هي: الباب التمهيدي: التعريف بإبن الملقّن وكتابه التوضيح، الباب الأول: الصناعة الحديثية المتعلقة بالأسانيد وعلوم الرواة، الباب الثاني: الصناعة الحديثية المتعلقة بتراجم الأبواب، الباب الثالث: الصناعة الحديثية في المصطلح والعلل والحكم على الحديث.
