حتى أواسط عقد التسعينات من القرن الفائت, كان يدور الحديث عن أن ست دول الأغنى في العالم تتحاور وتتصارع من أجل حصد أجزاء متزايدة من السوق العالمية, بهدف إعادة تقسيم العمل على المستوى العالمي بعد أن انهار الاتحاد السوفييتي وأقماره التي كانت تدور في فلكه. حول مائدة الحوار, نجد العم سام رجل الأعمال الأمريكي وقربه الساموراي الياباني وأمامه الصناعي الألماني وبجانبه الفرنسي خريج مدارس باريس الشهيرة ورجل المصارف اللندني وممثل عن المافيا الإيطالية,...يمثلون الدول الست الأغنى في العالم. وكان يسود الانطباع بأنه لا يمكن لواحد منهم أن يحقق الانتصار النهائي فيما لو تحالف البقية عامة أو بعضاً منهم مع بلدان أخرى. بدءاً من النصف الثاني من عقد التسعينات المذكور, وبشكل علني بعد أحداث الحادي عشر من أيلول عام 2001, يحاول العم سام أن يغرد منفرداً عن السرب.. لا بل أكثر من ذلك يحاول أن يقود جلسة الحوار مانحاً نفسه الحق في أن يكون الحكم و واضع قوانين اللعبة في آن واحد. وهذا الكتاب يقدم تحليلاً اقتصادياً لعملية البناء الاقتصادي التي حصلت في تلك البلدان الستة بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية موضحاً ظروف وخصوصية كل بلد على حدة, ومستنداً في الخط العام على التايلورية والفوردية... كما يستكمل فصوله الستة بأربعة ملاحق لها علاقة مباشرة بالتكتلات التي تنتمي إليها الدول المذكورة, علاوة على ملحق خاص بالصين: التنين الأكبر.
