في هذا الكتاب عرض لوجهتي نظر مختلفتين تناولتا موضوعاً واحداً في غاية الأهمية بالنسبة للفكر الإنساني بصورة عامة والفكر العربي على وجه الخصوص، ألا وهو موضوع التوحيد والموحدين الأول وتمثل الأولى بوجهة النظر المثالية التي اعتمدت في مناقشتها هذا الموضوع على الكتب المقدسة ورفدت معلوماتها بأخبار الإخباريين والروائيين الأول، وارتبطت وجهة النظر هذه بفئة معينة من الناس تداولت وما زالت تتداول قضايا التاريخ وفي مقدمتها موضوع بحثنا بقدسية متناهية رفضت معها أي جدل أو نقاش، متهمة كل محاولة بحث مخالفة لها بالخروج والمروق والزندقة.
وليس لنا من هدف في هذه الدراسة سوى أن نوقظ عند القارئ عقلانيته ليكون هو الحكم في قضية من أهم قضايا الفكر الديني أجهد الإنسان نفسه فيها كثيراً وهو يحاول أن يفلسفها ويضع لها المبررات الفكرية والروحانية لكونها نقطة الإرتكاز والبداية لكل أمور الدين اللاحقة بها.
