وطبيعي، إذن، أن تكون مادة المراجعة، بصورة أساسية غالبة، هي كتب النحو "الأصول" وأن يكون منهج المراجعة قائماً على نظرة داخلية في هذه الكتب تحاول أن تتجاوز الوصف المائل فيها بتحكيم وجهة في النظر مختلفة، أو تسوي للصورة المائلة فيها "ملامح" لم تكن مستوية بوضوح، أو تعيد النظر في بعض معطياتها إبتداء لتنفذ إلى تصور مغاير...
وقد استوى لي الكتاب في فصول أربعة صَدَّرْتُ كلا منها بمدخل يكون دليلاً قريباً على مادته ووجهته، فلا أستبق هنا شيئاً تجنباً للتكرار.
وقد أنفقت في ذلك غاية الوسع مستشعراً جلال الإلتزام الذي يترتب على المعاصرين في درس العربية، مستيقناً أن إحتمال الخطأ هو أحد محاذير الإجتهاد بل بعض مقتضياته.
