عملت الشريعة الإسلامية على بناء المجتمع الفاضل، الذي يكرّم فيه الإنسان، وتصاب فيه كافة حقوق الأفراد، والجماعات. أما غايتها فهي أن يكون الإنسان سيداً كريماً، يمارس حقوقه المشروعة بحرية كاملة، ويتمتع بكافة وسائل راحته بوعي كامل دون تعدٍّ على حرية الآخرين. وقد حمت الشريعة الإسلامية الحياة الخاصة للفرد والجماعة، والهيئة، وأعطت حق التصرف في المال، والمسكن لمن له الحق في ذلك. كما حافظت بتعاليمها السمحة على أسرار الإنسان أيّاً كان، وصانت عرضه وكرامته حياً وميتاً. وقد جاء اختيار المؤلف "أحمد الدغمي" للكتابة من موضوع "حماية الحياة الخاصة في الشريعة الإسلامية" في وقت توسعت فيه الحياة وتعقدت، وتعارضت المصالح المختلفة للأفراد والجماعات، وخرج فيه الناس عن جادة الطريق، وأصبحت سلوكياتهم على نمط غير إسلامي. فأراد أن يتكلم عن فلسفة التعاليم الإسلامية في هذا المجال، وأن يلقي الضوء على أسس وضوابط الحياة الخاصة المستمدة في الشريعة الإسلامية، ولإيضاح ذلك قسم بحثه إلى ما بين وخاتمة، جاء الباب الأول: في حرمة المساكن والأسرار، أما الباب الثاني فدارت مواضيعه حول حماية الأعراض، وعقوبة رمي المحصن والمحصنات بلا شهادة، وحرمة التشهير والشتم والتحقير، وحرمة إيذاء غير المسلمين من أهل العهد، وأهل الذمة، وحفظ المراسلات... إلى غير ذلك من المواضيع التي يهتم بها كل مسلم.
