يقدم دراسة للقافية والأصوات اللغوية كما تعارف عليها فى اللغات السامية وفى العربية بصفة خاصة مبينا كيف أثرت القافية العربية على الشعر العربى الذى تعرف عليها فى شعر التروبادور ونقلها الى البروفنسالى والمينى زانج فى القرنين الثالث والرابع عشر ، ومن ثم عرفت القافية فى أوبا وإن كان وجودها لم يستمر فى شعر بعض هذه اللغات ولم تظهر فيه القافية الا تقليدا وزينة فالشعر الكمى لا يحتاج بالضرورة وتنغيمها آخر البيت اما الشعر النبرى فهو بطبيعته محتاج رط ولا شك - للقافية وإيقاعها كما بين الكتاب . وقد قسم الكتاب الى قسمين تناول بالقسم الأول الحديث عن القافية فى اللغات السامية والقافية فى الشعر العربى والتقليج بها أو الثورة عليها ودراية البلاغيين القدماء لها وعنايتعم بها أما بالقسم الثانى فقد تناول الحديث عن القافية عند المحدثين والقافية فى الشعر الأوربى متحدثا عن ضرورة القافية فى الشعر وعن الأصوات اللغوية وصلتها بالقافية . وإننا لنتطله الى يوم نستطيع فيه ان نعود الى دراسة اللغات السامية دراسة جادة مفيدين منها فى دراساتنا العربية لغة وأدبا وتاريخا غير مكتفين بما نقوم الآن بدراسته فى اللغة العبرية والقليل من السريانية والحبشية .
