تحت عنوان "عقل الجهالة وجهل العقلاء" يقدم الدكتور مضر رياض الدبس بحثاً في وضعية الدروز في ضوء مسائل الهوية والعولمة والتغيرات الثقافية التي تشهدها المنطقة العربية اليوم، في سعي حثيث إلى إعادة بناء وعي الأقليات وتجاوز أيديولوجيا تهم الأقلوية بوصفها "ويعاً مقلوباً ومشوهاً للواقع والتاريخ".
في هذا الإطار يختار المؤلف "المجتمع الدرزي السوري" نموذجاً للبحث مبرراً اختياره "باعتقاد شخصي منفتح أمام التفنيد، العنصر الذاتي الوحيد في هذا الكتاب. وتتدفق هذه الذاتية وفقاً للمؤلف من ثلاثة ينابيع: الأول خلفية الألفة والمعرفة العميقة لمجتمع النشأة الأول، مجتمع الآباء والأجداد. وهي الرغبة في السير من فوق المكان الذي عايش المؤلف أدق تفاصيله على الأرض، والثاني قناعة من المؤلف بأن أغلب ما قيل من داخل هذا المجتمع، المنغلق على نفسه، كان في نطاق الأدلوجة... وأغلب ما قيل من خارج هذا المجتمع عنه، مسكون، هو الآخر، بأحكام مسبقة، دينية واجتماعية... والثالث: في رؤية شخصية بأن انتشار هذا المنطق النقدي سيحمل نوعاً من الخير لهذا المجتمع، الظاهرة، الصغير، المغلق، والذي يحمل له الكثير من المحبة.
وفي هذا السياق أيضاً يقارب المؤلف مفهوم "المقدس" و"الثقافة" وإشكالية العلاقة بينهما، وفكرة "المهدي المنتظر"، وأفكار "عبد الله بن ميمون وأتباعه"، و"تماهي الديني والثقافي" و"مفهوم الهابتيوس"، و"معرفة الحكمة أو حكمة المعرفة"، و"ثقافة التطرف والفكر والفكر الإقصائي"، و"سؤال الهوية"، و"مفهوم الأقلية" وغيرها من مفاهيم وإشكالات تشكل بمضمونها محتويات هذا الكتاب متع النقد والتحليل.
