يؤرخ الكتاب "الغائبون الحاضرون" لقضية مهمة هي جزء لا يتجزأ من قضية اللاجئين العامة. لكن موضوع اللاجئين الفلسطينيين داخل إسرائيل منذ قيامها لم يحظ حتى ببعض الاهتمام الذي حظيت به قضية اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الدول العربية. فهذا الكتاب هو الأول من نوعه، ولصدوره اليوم باللغة العربية أهمية خاصة لإلقاء الضوء على مصير جزء مهم من الشعب الفلسطيني ظلت قضيته مطوية مدة طويلة. لقد حرك المهجَرون أنفسهم، منذ التسعينات، قضيتهم المنسية وذكروا القاصي والداني بأن قصة سكان قريتي إقرث وكفر برعم ليست يتيمة. وبأن سكان عشرات القرى الأخرى، ولا سيما في الجليل، ما زالوا يعيشون في جوار أنقاض قراهم وبيوتهم التي دمرت خلال حرب 1948، أو في أعقابها. ونشر هذا البحث، في هذه المرحلة الدقيقة من تاريخ الشعب الفلسطيني، قد يساهم في إضافة لبن قليلة إلى بناء الذاكرة الجماعية للاجئين الفلسطينيين داخل وطنهم.
