لم تحظ، على الأغلب، أي قضية باهتمام الأمم المتحدة مثل قضية فلسطين والصراع العربي-الصهيوني فمنذ سنة 1947، وجهت كل حالة من حالات الصراع بقرارات لم تكتف بالإشارة إلى الأحداث بل ساهمت في بلورتها... نظراً لأهمية هذه القرارات، أدركت مؤسسة الدراسات الفلسطينية ضرورة جمعها وتمكين الباحثين، وصانعي السياسة وغيرهم من المهتمين بشؤون الشرق الأوسط، من الوصول إليها، وهذا المجلد، يشتمل على نصوص جميع القرارات التي اتخذتها الأمم المتحدة ووكالاتها المتخصصة ويغطي السنوات 1992-1998 لاستكمال المنهجية في إعداد هذا المجلد الخامس ارتأت المؤسسة تقسيم القرارات وفقاً لهيئات الأمم المتحدة التي تصدرها (مثل الجمعية العامة، مجلس الأمن،...الخ) وترتيبها بالتسلسل الزمني ضمن كل قسم، وهذا الترتيب يتيح للباحث العثور على القرارات ذات الصلة بالعودة إلى القائمة المتسلسلة زمنياً، الموجودة في بداية المجلد، وقد اعتمدت المؤسسة النصوص العربية الرسمية للقرارات بحسب ما وردت في وثائق الأمم المتحدة، وأرفقت معلومات التصويت بقرارات الجمعية العامة، ومجلس الأمن بكاملها، وفي حال توفرها بقرارات الهيئات الأخرى التابعة للأمم المتحدة، وأضيف إلى المجلد ملحق يضم قوائم التصويت على قرارات الجمعية العامة ومجلس الأمن، الأمر الذي يتيح للباحث الاطلاع على أنماط التصويت الخاصة بالدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة خلال الفترة التي يشملها المجلد.
وللتوضيح حول مجموعة هذه الجلدات يمكن القول بأن المجلد الأول شمل على جميع القرارات لسنوات 1947-1974 صدرت سنة 1993، أما المجلد الثاني فقد أعطى السنوات 1975-1981 والذي صدر أصلا في سبعة أجزاء منفصلة بين 1977-1988 وصدر سنة 1994 أما المجلد الرابع فصدر سنة 1995 وغطى السنوات 1987-1991 والطبعات الأولى صدرت باللغات العربية والفرنسية والإنجليزية والمجموعة كاملة مؤلفة من خمس مجلدات متوفرة باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية.
