كان لا بد من وضع بين يديْ القارئ العربي مختارات من الأعمال الفكرية الغنية والقيِّمة للأب يواكيم مبارك (1924-1995)، وهو ذاك العلامة بكل معنى الكلمة الذي تجاهله وطنه رغم غنى التراث الفكري والثقافي والتاريخي الذي تركه لنا.
صحيح أنَّ عدداً كبيراً من أعماله الفكرية قد كُتِبَت باللغة الفرنسية نظراً لإقامته في فرنسا مدة طويلة ولحيازته على ثلاث شهادات دكتوراه من جامعة باريس، تدور حول تاريخ العلاقات المسيحية والإسلامية منذ نشوء الديانة الإسلامية. وما يميِّز أعمال هذه الشخصية الفذة من الناحية الفكرية كما من الناحية الإنسانية، هو هذه النظرة الشاملة المنفتحة والثاقبة ذات الآفاق الحاضرة والمستقبلية البنّاءة والمتفائلة لتأمين الانسجام والمودة ليس بين أبناء لبنان فقط، بلْ أيضاً بين العرب أنفسهم.
إنَّ مقاربة يواكيم مبارك لتاريخ العلاقات المسيحية الإسلامية هي مقاربة موضوعية بشكل لافت وإنْ كان متجذِّراً في المسيحية ويؤمن بها إيماناً ساطعاً مفتوحاً على أبناء الديانات الأخرى. وهو بحث باستمرار عن القواسم المشتركة، وليس عمّا يتناوله بشكل مكثف العديد من المفكرين والباحثين من الحواجز وشعور التعصّب والانعزال عن الآخر أو كرهه.
وقد اشتُهر الأب يواكيم مبارك في العالم الفرانكفوني بتعليمه الجامعي حول الديانة الإسلامية ومبادئها وعقيدتها، وذلك في كلٍّ من جامعتَيْ السوربون في باريس وجامعة لوفان الكاثوليكية في بلجيكا. وكذلك اشتُهر بمساعدته للطلاب اللبنانيين والعرب في باريس بالإشراف على أطروحات دكتوراه عديدة في مواضيع هامة لبنانية وعربية.
