كثيرة، كما تعلمون هي الدراسات التي اعتنت بقضايا الأسرة، لكن الدراسات التي عاينت موقع المرأة ومكانتها في الأسرة لا تزال في بداياتها، وها نحن الآن في الربع الأول من القرن العشرين ولا نزال نطرح أسئلة عن المرأة ونعالج قضايا طُرحت منذ منتصف القرن التاسع عشر مع المصلحين الأوائل، ولا تزال معالجة أوضاع النساء خاضعة بالكامل لمتطلبات الأسرة، ولم يتم الفصل، بصورة واضحة، بين القيم الأسرية التي لا بد من تغيّرها، والمهام الأسرية التي أصبحت جزءاً من وقائع المعيوش الاجتماعي. إن إعادة نظر جذرية في المنظومة التربوية التي ترعى أنماط العلاقات في الأسرة وتحدد الوظائف والأدوار لكل من أفرادها أصبحت في حكم الضرورة، وتغيير وضع المرأة وتبدل مكانتها بالنسبة لنفسها أو بالنسبة للمجتمع هو رهن بتطوير موقعها في الأسرة وتعديله. ونريد أن نؤكد هنا أنَّ النظرة النقدية لهذه الأنماط ليست رفضاً للمؤسسة بما هي مؤسسة اجتماعية، وليست هجوماً على بنى الأسرة ومعناها كوحدة أساسية تؤمن مصالح أعضائها، لكن إطاحة الفروق بين الوظائف والأدوار المختلفة لأفراد الأسرة، والتكلم عن الأسرة وكأنها وحدة مندمجة هو طمس فعلي للتمييز العميق الممارس داخلها، ولا بد من الاعتراف أنَّ هذه الأسرة هي أسرة الرجل، وما نطمح إليه هو جعل هذه الأسرة أسرة للرجل والمرأة والأولاد معاً.
