يحتوي هذا الكتاب على دراسة ونماذج منتقاة، أما الدراسة فهي عبارة عن محاضرات كان المؤلف قد ألقاها في مؤسسة شومان واختار موضوعها بنفسه وهو هنا يقول: " اخترت موضوعها بنفسي، لأن وجدت الحديث عن الشعر المعاصر نظرياً مجرداً وفضائياًن وإن لم يرتبط بالنص المنتج تحت لافتة المعاصرة والتجديد والتحديث، فوجدت نفسي بعد اختيار الموضوع وسط نماذج واتجاهات متعددة أوضحت بعض ملابساتها في الفصل الأول من هذه الدراسة.
ولكن ما أستطيع تأكيده هنا هو رؤيتي للتحديث كإنجاز نصي، إذ أنني لم أتوقف عند الظاهرة الشعرية تاريخياً أو حسب تسلسلها الحياتي كما فعل العدو القليل من دارسي شعر الأردن المعاصر. بل حاولت قراءة فنياً... وهكذا كانت رحلتي مع شعر الأردن فنية-نصية في المقام الأول. وهكذا نجد أن هذه المحاضرات والمقالات إنما هي عبارة عن قراءة أدبية جاءت حول التحديث في الشعر الأردني المعاصر. هذا على صعيد الدراسة-التي هي القسم الأول من الكتاب. أما القسم الثاني فاحتوى على مختارات شعرية لا تبغي أخذ دور الأنطولوجيا كاملاً وإنما هدفها بعبارة أدق التأكيد على طبيعة العمل.
