من السُّنن التي تخضع لها اللغات ألاّ تعيش كلّ لُغةٍ بمعزلٍ عن غيرها، وأن تفتَرِض كلّ لغة ما تحتاج إليه من ألفاظ، وذلك للتعبير عما يجِدّ عندها من معان، وليست العربيّة بدعاً مِن غيرها، فقد افترضت من لغات الأمم الأخرى في جميع العصور، فحفل المُعجم العربيّ، القديم والحديث، بأعداد كثيرة من الألفاظ الأعجميّة.
وقد اهتمَّ اللُّغويون القُدماء بهذا الضَّرْب من الألفاظ؛ فحدَّدوه بمُصطَلَحَين: الأول (المُعرَّب)، وقصدوا به المُفردات التي أخضعها العرب لطريقتِهم في بناء الكلمة، فغيّروا ما فيها من أصوات لا تنطلق بها ألسِنَتُهم، وغيّروا أوزانَها فجعلوها أوزاناً يَصُوغون عليها ألفاظَهم.
أما الثاني: (الدخيل)، وأرادوا به ما لم يغيَروه من ألفاظ اقترضوها من الأمم الأخرى، لأنهم لم يجدوه نابياً عن ذوقهم في تأليف الكلمات، إنْ في الأصوات، وإنْ في الصِّيَغِ والأوزان.
ومِمَّا تجدر الإشارة إليه هنا، هو أنّهم لم يتَّفِقوا على هذين المُصطَلَحين، بل اضطربوا في إستعمالهما، فأحَلّوا أحدَهما محَلَّ الآخر، ولكن أكثر اللغويين المُعاصِرين أقرّوهما، لأنّهما مما تطمئن إليه النفس، ويميل إليه القلب.
وقد قدم الدكتور "أسامة رشيد الصفار" كتاب في اللغة تناول فيه موضوع المعرب والدخيل من الألفاظ والألفاظ العالمية وموضوع الخلط بين هذه الانواع والشك في اصل الاسماء التابعة له.
ونظر الكتاب الى موضوع المعرب والدخيل نظرة عصرية بعد أن مهد بذكر ما ورد في التراث من هذا العلم.
