الفتوحات الملكية في الأصل كتاب للشيخ محي الدين بن عمر بن الطائي أودعه ما فتح الله به عليه عند طوافه ببيته المكرم، وقد عكف الشيخ محي الدين الطعمي على كتاب شيخه ابن عربي باحثاً ومنقياً حتى جاءت قريحته بهذا الكتاب المسمى: عروش الحقائق في رفع البلاء عن الخلائق"، وأراده أم يكون تكملة لكتاب أستاذه، وعرض فيه لجملة من العلوم وعالج فيه مظاهر الابتلاء العامة في الأكوان باحثاً في مقام الابتلاء وقوانينه وعلله ورموزه ورجاله وأقطابه وأحواله ومقاماته وفضائله وأصوله. وفي كل ذلك ينهج نهج شيخه.
ويرى المؤلف أن نشأة الابتلاء الإلهي كان من مبدأ الذرة، فالغيوم ما تبدت الأمن عين واحدة، والكثيرة ما كثرت إلا عن الوحدة وأصل الابتلاء جرى من تلك الجوهرة التي هي الذرة الأولى. وقد كتب البلاء على كل المعاني إلا الجنة التي هي قد تخلت عن تكاليف الابتلاء ولا ينبغي أن يحل فيها ابتلاء لكونها دار الجزاء الخالص.
يقع الكتاب في مجلدين و620 فصلاً، يتألف كل مجلد من ستمائة وعشرين باباً، ويذكر في آخر الكتاب ما جرى بين يدي الساعة من مشاهد الابتلاء وعلامات صغرى وكبرى ومخترعات.
