هذا الكتاب هو في التصوُّف وعلم النفس، ألَّفه ابن عربي خلال (30) سنة، ولم يحرِّره على النحو المألوف من حيث وحدة الموضوع وإطراد المنهج، ويُعَدُّ من أعظم كتب ابن عربي وآخرها تأليفاً كما صرَّح به حاجي خليفة في "كشف الظنون".
و"الفتوحات المكيَّة" هي خلاصة المعارف الصوفيَّة والفكريَّة في الإسلام، إلاَّ أن الإنتفاع بها، ليس متوافراً لغير الباحثين المتخصصين، فمنهج الكتاب لا يشبه المناهج المعتادة، لا من حيث خطته العامة، ولا من جهة العرض والسياق.
و"الفتوحات المكية" إحدى روائع الفكر الإنساني، وأَثَرٌ فريد في الدراسات الصوفيَّة عامة، والإسلامية خاصة، خلاصة نتاج الشيخ الأكبر محيي الدين ابن عربي.
ويود الكتاب أن يوجه النظر، فقط، إلى أمرين اثنين: أولهما: نظرية المعرفة الصوفية، ولها أشباه ونظائر في الفكر الإنساني، وقد تباينت مواقف العلماء من "الفتوحات" ومؤلفه ابن عربي، فمنهم من أطراه كما فعل الشعراني والكمال ابن الزملكاني حيث قال: "هو البحر الزاخِرُ في المعارف الإلهية"، ومنهم من كَفَّره كما فعل الإمام شمس الدين المذهبي مُتَحَدِّثاً عن كتابة "الفصوص"... فما حقيقة ذلك؟...
هذا ما سيحاول هذا الكتاب الإجابة عنه عند دراستنا لمخطوطات الكتاب، وقد رأينا أن نجعل في هذه المقدمة بحثين: 1-الأول يتضمن ترجمة لإبن عربي تُعرِّف بهذا العالِم الجليل، 2-الثاني: ويشمل دراسة كتاب "الفتوحات" ودوافع تأليفه، ومضمونه، وترتيبه، ومختصراته، ومخطوطاته، وكلام العلماء حول دسَّ الملحدين فيه ما يُخالِف إعتقاد أهل السًّنَّة والجماعة.
