لم يعد ممكناً لأحد أن يغفل الصلة الوثيقة للأدب بعلم النفس فهو أي الأدب أصلح الميادين الفكرية لإظهار العلاقة بينه وبين علم النفس لأنه نتاج اللاشعور قبل أن يكون حصيلة الوعي والإدراك. والعمل الأدبي رائز إسقاطي ممتاز إذ أن الكاتب يُسقط عقده على نتاجه والتحليل النفسي للأدب يهدف بنظر العديدين إلى الوصول، انطلاقاً من الأثر الفني إلى اكتشاف علة وجوده. أي الكشف عن العوامل الكامنة في اللاشعور التي أدت إلى ولادته. والدراسة النفسية للأدب ما تزال ناشئة في اللغة العربية. والدكتور خريستو نجم في هذه الدراسة التي تسلط الضوء على رهاب المرأة في أدب الياس أبي شبكة، اعتمد منهج التحليل النفسي للأدب من غير التزام بمدرسة تحليلية معينة كما اعتمد علوماً نفسية أخرى تستعين بسيكولوجيا طب الأعصاب وسيكولوجيا السلوك والجشطالت.
كما استعان بعلم الخطوط والقسمات والطبائع عندما تطابق نتائجها أصول البحث العلمي أو تتفق مع أسس التحليل النفسي. لكنه وهو يبحث هذه العقدة في أدب أبي شبكة لم يحصر الشاعر في دائرة ضيقة، لأن عقدة رُهاب الرجل من المرأة عميقة الجذور ومتشعبة الفروع ودراستها تتطلب العودة إلى عقد الشاعر الطفولية وإظهار دورها في توجيه سلوكه وتأثيرها في بناء شخصيته. ويرى الدكتور خريستو نجم أن عقدة رهاب المرأة كعقدة أوديب تكاد تكون حتمية في حياة كل كائن بشري، وأن قلة من الناس يجتازون امتحانها بلا ذيول سلبية. والرهاب من المرأة يستمر كامناً في لاوعي الرجل من غير أن يكونوا بالضرورة عاجزين والبحث يتألف من مقدمة وثلاثة أبواب.
عرض الباب الأول لمنظومة الأسرة وتتبع فيه أهم العناصر التي شكلت طبع الشاعر ومزاجه، ثم دخل في الباب الثاني إلى مظاهر الرهاب في أدب أبي شبكة. أما الباب الثالث فعالج فيه علاقة الرهاب بالإبداع وقد خلص إلى أن رهاب المرأة أفضى بأبي شبكة إلى صوفية أدبية، كانت كامنة في نفسه منذ بواكيره، ولكنها اتضحت فيما بعد مرحلة (الأفاعي). لأن الشعر الصوفي عنده إوالية دفاع، اعتمدها تسوية للصراع القائم في نفسه بين غريزتي الموت والحياة.
