وديع الصافي مطرب استثنائي، والاكتفاء بهذا يظل ناقصاً جداً. إنه في واقع الأمر رجل استطاع أن يدخل التاريخ الموسيقي والفني العربي من ثلاثة أبواب على الأقل.
أولاً-الصوت: في سياق هذا الكتاب تحليلات لمكونات صوت وديع الصافي، تتفق بالدليل العلمي أنه صوت نادر واستثنائي قلما نستمع إلى مثله، بل إنه في أحد عناصره مخالف للطبيعة البشرية.
ثانياً-البشير: ثمة أمرين اهتدى إليهما الكتاب بالبحث التاريخي، ولم يكن أمرهما معروفاً على نطاق واسع، 1-أنه وديع الصافي حمل لواء الغناء البلدي الريفي الزراعي (الفولكلور)، 2-نقل هذا الفولكلور من صعيد الغناء الريفي المحصور (عبر مهرجانات بعلبك) وحوله إلى فن عربي مدني (كلاسيكي)، وفق ما سيصفه المؤلف في الفصل الأول من هذا الكتاب.
ثالثاً-مخفر الشعراء: لم يخترع وديع الصافي الشعر الوطني، لكن وديع الصافي أصر منذ ظهوره الفني، على اختيار الشعر أو الزجل الذي كاد ألا يخلو مرة من المعاني الوطنية.
هذا كله يدعو إلى القول أن وديع الصافي، على عظمة صوته، ليس مغنياً عظيماً فقط، بل إنه كان أحد أهم محركات النهضة الموسيقية اللبنانية التي أسست بالمادة الموسيقية الريفية حركة موسيقية مدنية جديدة، وأعاد ربط الكثير من خيوط تقطعت بين أوصال الانتشار اللبناني في العالم. وسيتبين كله هذا تباعاً في فصول هذا الكتاب.
كتاب ضخم عن المطرب اللبناني الكبير، يروي حياته ويصف مواضع نشأته وتربيته الموسيقية، ويتضمن تحليلاً لصوته ومزاياه الأساسية، وأسلوب تلحينه، وكثيراً من الصور، وثبتاً لكل أغنياته.
