وقد توفر لي من صحبة كتابات عميد الادب العربي خلال هذين العقدين ما حفزني علي نشر هذه الدراسات التي ضمها هذا الكتاب وسيري القاريء أن الفصول الثلاثة الاولي تتناول في خط تاريخي متواصل طه حسين سياسيا منذ أن بدأ يتشكل وعيه العالم مع نهاية العقد الأول من القرن الماضي وحتي أصبحت له مواقف وأدوار مشهودة كاتبا وإداريا ووزيرا أما الفصلان الرابع والخامس فقد اختص أحدهما بدراسة موقف العميد من الغرب وكيف تأثر بنموذجه الحضاري ؟ والي أي مدي ؟ بينما تناول الفصل الاخير وهو يتصل بسابقه دراسة لموقف العميد من مسألة الهوية والوجهة الحضارية التي ينبغي لمصر أن تتجه إليها وذلك من خلال قراءة مختلفة لكتابة الخطير " مستقبل الثقافة في مصر " واخيرا أرجو أن يجد القاريء شيئا من الفائدة والمتعة التي وجدتها في صحبة طه حسين.
