تحت عنوان "الطريق إلى تدمر كهف في الصحراء" – الداخل مفقود والخارج مولود – (1981-1986م) يروي المهندس سليمان أبو الخير شهادته على ممارسات النظام السوري في سجن تدمر العسكري، بعد اعتقاله إثر عودته من الخارج عند نقطة حدود "باب الهوى": " – سيد سليمان ابو الخير !
تفضل معي (خمس دقائق)". والخمسة دقائق امتدت سنوات "بعد أن جردوني من كل شيء أودعوني غرفة حقيرة قذرة ... كانت الحجرة جرداء لا أثاث فيها، سوى مغسلة ... وقمت أذرع الحجرة على ضيقها ذهاباً وإياباً، لا يفارقني التفكير في المصير المجهول الذي سآلو إليه ..." وعلى الرغم من تأخر كتابة سطور الكتاب ربع قرن من الزمان على ما يقول المؤلف: إلا أنها تكشف خفايا وأسرار وشهادات سجناء بالأسماء، والوقائع وبعض مجرمي مجزرة تدمر من المخططين والمنفذين، وتقدم سير ذاتية لبعض من رموز النظام، ووسائل التعذيب المستخدمة في سجون النظام، وانتشار الفساد ونهب خيرات البلاد، وعلاقة النظام بقضية اغتيال رئيس الوزراء اللبناني الأسبق رفيق الحريري، والوضع في المنطقة العربية حتى تشوب ثورات الربيع العربي.
يروي الكاتب قصة عاشها لمدة خمسة سنوات، في كهف من كهوف الظلم والطغيان، وأخذ هذا الكهف (وهو سجن تدمر العسكري) شهرة كبيرة طالت آلاف من أبناء سوريا... بل وامتدت لتعتدي على العديد من أبناء العرب والمسلمين ممن دخلوا سورية.
فحاول المؤلف أن يسرد قصة اعتقاله، ومروره بمراحل التعذيب المختلفة من مراكز التحقيق إلى سجن تدمر العسكري، مجتهداً أن يروي ما عاشه بطريقة درامية...
والجدير بالذكر أن أحداث القصة امتدت من عام 1981م، إلى عام 1986.. كما أن المؤلف حاول في نهاية روايته أن يضع لمحة عن بعض رموز النظام السوري... وصور مراحل اعتقاله وبؤسه وشقائه... ولم ينس أن يذكر لنا لحظات إطلاق سراحه، ولقائه مع أهله وأحبابه.
