إني أقدم هذا الكتاب بعض ثمار تجربتي المتواضعة في التعامل مع التراث العلمي الإسلامي، قراءة ودراسة، وبحثاً وتدريساً، وترجمة وتأليفاً وتحقيقاً، طوال فترة امتدت لأكثر من ثلاثين عاماً، وذلك في إطار السياق التاريخي العام لمسيرة العلم والحضارة الإنسانية، وقد حرصت على أن تتضمن فصول الكتاب جل ما يفيد القارئ العربي، ويثري ثقافته العلمية في مجال العلوم الأساسية والتطبيقية، من خلال التعريف ببعض جوانب العطاء العلمي للحضارة الإسلامية، وتأكيد الكثير من العلوم والنظريات التي ما تزال محتفظة بقيمتها المعرفية والمنهجية حتى اليوم، ذلك لأن الحقائق العلمية ليست كلها على درجة متكافئة من الأهمية والدلالة عندما يتناولها مؤرخ العلم بالتحليل والتفسير في أي عصر من العصور، كما أن قيمة العلماء ومكانتهم تتحدد بقيمة الأفكار والنتائج التي يتوصلون إليها، وبمدى أثرها في دفع مسيرة التقدم العلمي والحضاري، وجعلت الكتاب مكوناً من أحد عشر فصلاً كالتالي:-
