حاصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة كينت، وعلى pgceمن جامعة رويهامبتون، وهو عضو في مجلس الرابطة البريطانية للدراسات الإسلامية، متخصص في فلسفة الدين وفي الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر وفي مجال الأخلاق والفلسفة والسياسة.
كتب جاكسون عددا من الكتب عن نيتشه وأفلاطون وفلسفة الدين والإسلام، ويبحث حاليا في الشأن الإسلامي، كما يتناول بالدرس الرؤى الفلسفية الإسلامية التي تتجاوز حالة الإنسان transhumanism، وربط ذلك بالفلسفية الغربية.
حصل في 2014 على المنحة الجامعية على الابتكار في التعليم، وهو حاليا ينتج مواد التدريس والتعلم لمؤسسة توني من أجل تعزيز الفهم الشامل للإسلام.
Book Description
شهدت السنوات الأخيرة عدداً من نقاط التحول التاريخية في العالم الإسلامي، حيث كان لبعضها تأثير مهم في العالم غير الإسلامي، بدءاً من الثورة الإيرانية عام 1979، إلى الحرب الإيرانية - العراقية عام 1980، إلى فترة الثمانينيات وسيطرة القوات الروسية على أفغانستان، ثم الصراع في البوسنة والهرسك... بعدها حرب الخليج، والتفتيش على الأسلحة في العراق... وصولاً إلى حادثة برجي مركز التجارة العالمي، كلها أحداث أوجدت مصطلحات جديدة في الإسلام، باتت شائعة اليوم.
ومهما تكن الأحداث، يرى المؤلف أن ما يجب أن يكون واضحاً هو أهمية الإسلام، ويرى أنه بدلاً من التعرف إلى لاهوتية الإسلام، من الأفضل الإطلاع على الصراع والإختلاف بين الإسلام والغرب، كما يرى أنه، وبغض النظر عن الإختلافات الدينية وهي عديدة، فإن "المسلمون لا يختلفون عن سواهم، فهم بشر يُدمّون إذا جُرحواء".
لذلك، سعى المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إلى إختيار خمسين شخصية إسلامية، رغم وجود الكثير من الشخصيات، ورغم صعوبة الإجماع على خمسين شخصية، إلا أن الإختيار جاء في إطار تاريخي بحسب الأحداث والحركات، ولتسهيل الإطلاع، رُتّبت مداخل الكتاب ترتيباً زمنياً، وخُتم كل مدخل بأهم الأعمال ومراجع إضافية تزيد من معلومات القارئ عن الشخصية نفسها.
