ما الإيديولوجية؟ هل هي وعي زائف ومقلوب للعالم أم أنها الوسط الضروري الذي بدونه لا يمكن للبشر أن يتحاوروا ويفعلوا في التاريخ؟ وما هي صلتها بالعلم: هل تقف على النقيض منه أم أنها بمثابة حلقة الاتصال بين النظر والعمل، بين الفكر والممارسة؟ هل هي اغتراب للوعي وبالتالي عجز عن توجيه الفعل وضياعه في مسارب خاطئة أم أنها أداة الإنسان لتملك عالمه ومصيره؟ ثم هل الإيديولوجيات مجرد أوهام مفارقة للواقع أم أنها تعبير عماً يتضمنه هذا الواقع من تناقضات وصراعات؟
على هذه الإشكالات وغيرها يسعى هذا الكتاب لأن يجيب، إذ يحوي بين دفتيه نصوصاً عديدة هي أقرب لأن تكون مسحاً شاملاً لأهم ما كتبه المفكرون الغربيون بصدد مفهوم الإيديولوجية، وبالتالي فهو يعكس التضارب في الآراء والمواقف من هذا المفهوم وفقاً للمدارس الفكرية التي يصدر عنها هؤلاء المفكرين، بالإضافة إلى أنه يستعيد أهم الأفكار التي أثيرت بخصوص مفهوم الأيديولوجية خلال القرنين الأخيرين.
هكذا نلتقي بنصوص تعود لسلسلة من المفكرين تمتد من ماركس حتى ألتوسير وآرون وفوكو مروراً بغرامشي ولوكاتش وسارتر، مما يسمح لنا بتتبع مفهوم الإيديولوجية في تطوره التاريخي وفي المضامين المختلفة التي اكتسبها في المدارس الفلسفية والاجتماعية المعاصرة.
