إن كل أخلاقي عظيم هو سيكولوجي عظيم ,عالم بالطبيعة الإنسانية التي لابد من ارتقائها بالكلمة ,إلى مستوى القيمة الأخلاقية ,وهو نفسه مستوى الانفتاح على الحقيقة .وهكذا نجد أن التأمل أو الرؤية الفلسفية تقوم على أساس أخلاقي .إن العطالة في داخلنا ,وهي ترواغنا ,ونحن غالباً ما نستسلم لغوايتها ,ونتواطأ معها بضرب من خداع الذات .إن الرغبة العطالية كامنة في قبو الشخصية ,وهذا القبو هو كهف التناقض واللامعقول .والإنسان ,لكي يكون صادقاً مع نفسه ,عليه أن ينزل إلى هذا القبو الذي سبقه إليه الأنبياء والفلاسفة وعلماء النفس ,متسلحاً بالإخلاص للحقيقة ,ضد نفسه الأمارة بالسوء ,وهكذا نتحرر من عطالتنا الذاتية المتواطئة مع عطالة العالم الخارجي على نحو من الأنحاء .
