هو عسكري بريطاني مستعرب، عمل في الكويت مع المعتمد السياسي هارولد ديكسون، الذي كان هو الآخر مستعربا وترك احد اهم الكتب عن البادية.
وضع جيرالد دي غوري مؤلفات كثيرة، بينها «ثلاثة ملوك من بغداد»، وجاء من الكويت الى الرياض مع اول سفير بريطاني مفوض لدى السعودية العام 1935، السير اندرد رايان، الذي حمل الى الملك عبد العزيز ارفع وسام من الملك جورج الخامس.
تميز اسلوب دي غوري عن غيره بدقة هائلة في الوصف وحرص مذهل على التفاصيل.
وقد نقلت عنه في «قافلة الحبر» وصفه لديوان الملك عبد العزيز و«قصر المربع».
ووصف رحلة للملك الى البرَّ.
وبعد ذلك جمعت وقرأت كل ما كتب عن المنطقة، بأسلوب ادبي لا علاقة له بالجندية او بـ«المخابرات» كما وصفه مترجم كتابه «ثلاثة ملوك من بغداد» الذي قال انه كان «ضابط مخابرات»، في اي حال لم اعد الى «قافلة الحبر» منذ صدوره.
لكنني ذهبت بالامس الى مركز الملك عبد العزيز في الرياض القديمة.
ودخلت الى قصر المربع.
ووقفت اتأمل المجلس الشتوي وكيف وصفه دي غوري.
والمجلس الصيفي وكيف يدخل الهواء من النوافذ.
ورأيت الكراسي الباقية كما هي.
والسجادة الكاشانية الخضراء.
ومكاتب المستشارين ومكتب رئيس الخويا ومكتب البرقيات.
وجهاز الارسال القديم الذي يحمل الرقم المسلسل 1202 وكرسي الملك العريض.
وتلك الاعمدة الملونة والسقوف الخشبية والجدران المبنية باللبن والقش.
والسقوف المدعمة بجذوع الشجر.
والميازيب المصنوعة من تلك الجذوع.
