تنوعت أساليب ومناهج الصوفية في الدعوة إلى الله تعالى، والتعبير عن مفاهيمهم وتشويق الناس إليها، فأكثروا من الكتابات النثرية، وأدب الحكمة، والتجريد الروحاني أو الفيحاء النفسي، والرؤى والمنامات، من أجل أن يصلوا الناس بما قصدوه من الدعوة إلى الله عز وجل والترغيب في الانقطاع لعبادته.. ولكنهم بلغوا الذروة في التعبير البلاغي حين عبروا عن رسالتهم في شكل شعري، فصاغوا أشعارا رمزية كثيرة لا تكاد تحصى، تأسوا فيها بالقرآن الكريم، وركزوا فيها مثله على لذة الخمر، فوصفوا أوانيها، وتحدثوا عن أسمائها ودلالاتها، وألقاب سقاتها، ووسائل الحث عليها.
ولما كان المفكر الكبير الدكتور "حسن الفاتح قريب الله" قد تخصص في دراسة فلسفة المتصوفين وأدبهم، وجاد قلمه-من قبل- في هذا المجال ببحوث عديدة تصدرت مكانها بين الدراسات الأدبية الشهيرة في القرن العشرين، فهاهو ذا يقدم لما-في هذا الكتاب-جانباً فريداً من أدب الصوفية، يعرض فيه أشعارهم التي تعرضوا فيها للمفهوم الرمزي للخمر، وكيف أنهم-رغم مجاراتهم الشعراء الغواة من أصحاب الخمريات في استخدام ذات ألفاظهم وأساليبهم-كانوا يرمون من وراء خمرياتهم إلى دلالة رمزية معنوية، أشاروا بها غلى نعيم الآخرة ولذائد الفردوس الأعلى.
