إن من أصح التفاسير هو أن يفسر القرآن بالقرآن، وهذا ما ذهب إليه علماء الأمة، فهو أحسن طرق التفسير، فعلى المفسر أولاً أن ينظر في كتاب الله جل جلاله، فإن لم يجد فيه تفسيراً تعداه إلى سُنّة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ودليل ذلك أن رسول الله سلى الله عليه وسلم كان أول من فسر القرآن بالقرآن، وعلى خطى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سار العلماء متبعين هداه.
والناظر في (التلخيص في تفسير القرآن الكريم) لمؤلفه الكواشي – موضوع هذا الكتاب – يجد الآراء التفسيرية التي صدرت عن اصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كونهم قد عايشوا نزول الآيات، وعرفوا معانيها، والأسباب التي نزلت من أجلها. والكواشي هو من الذين ساروا على نفس النهج يتناول الآيات، فيفسرها آية بعد آية، وأحياناً يأخذ أكثر من آية فيفسرها وكأنك لا تعرف بداية الآية من نهايتها لتداخل التفسير بين الآيات مستوعباً بتفسيره جميع السور متجاوزاً عن تفسير بعض الألفاظ من الآيات لوضوحها، فلا يذكرها ولا يذكر تفسيرها، ويختم في الغالب تفسير الآيات بقوله بعد شرحها : (تلخيصه كذا) بعبارة وجيزة. وعليه، يشكل هذا الكتاب دراسة في تفسير الشيخ موفق الدين الكوائي (توفي سنة 680ه) وهو شافعي المذهب، ومن أهم المفسرين للقرآن بالقرآن، ومن المهتمين بالمسائل الروحية والعقائدية في تفسيره للآيات، وخاصة ما يراه ضروري في تهذيب النفس. وبهذا يجمع الكتاب اشتغال الكواشي بتفسير القرآن بالقرآن والقرآن بالسّنة، وتفسير القرآن بأقوال الصحابة والتابعين رضي الله عنهم، واهتمامه بالأحكام الفقهية، ومسائل أصول الفقه، ومسائل العقيدة واللمسات الروحية في التفسير.
