تأتي الحياكة كأحد العمليات الأهم في صناعة الملابس الجاهزة لكونها العمد الأساسية التي تحافظ على تصميم وشكل وأداء الملبس، كما تمثل الحياكة عصب البناء الهيكلي المحدد لدورة حياة الملبس، لذلك فهي تحتاج إلى مهارات وخبرات خاصة قوامها خلفية علمية متينة وممارسات فنية دقيقة، وهذا الكتاب الذي يحمل عنوان "الحياكة علم وفن" جاء في خمسة فصول. يتناول الفصل الأول أساسيات ماكينة متضمنة الغرز والوصلات وأنواعها وتقنيات الحياكة وكيفية اختيار نوع الحياكة وتصنيفها وكذلك ماكينات الحياكة الصناعية وأنواعها والتقسيمات المختلفة لماكينات الحياكة. في حين يصف الفصل الثاني الأجزاء لماكينات الحياكة الصناعية (301) إضافة إلى أجزاء رأس الماكينة والأجزاء الداخلية لها وتركيباتها. أما الفصل الثالث فإنه يهتم بالمهارات الأساسية لتشغيل ماكينة الحياكة والصيانة حيث التعامل مع وضع الخيط على الماكينة واختبار الأخيرة للحياكة واختبار الضغط علي الأقمشة بجانب اختبار الماكينة للحياكة والصيانة العامة وأنواع صيانة الماكينة وتزيتها وتقييم حالة أجزائها.
ويعني الفصل الرابع بأدوات القص والحياكة والتشطيب للإنتاج المحدود "الفردي" لذلك فإنه يعرض لأدوات القياس وأدوات اخذ علامات وأدوات القص والتنظيف وأدوات الكي وأدوات مساعدة إضافة إلى الوقوف علي المهارات والتدريبات الأساسية في جودة الحياكة والتشطيب وأساسيتها.
وأخيراً يتناول الكتاب في فصله الخامس تقنيات الحياكة المستخدمة في الملابس الجاهزة فيقدم في مستخلصات سلسة الوصلات وأنواعها والثنيات وأنواعها والبيه والجيوب والكشكشة والاكوال والمردات والأساور ثم إنهاء وتشطيب فتحات الرقبة والإبط إلى أخر طرق التشطيب المستخدمة في صناعة الملابس الجاهزة.
