الحياكة فن يدوي مارسته المرأة منذ وقت مبكر، وذلك لتصنع من الخيوط الصوفية شتاء ما تكسو به أفراد عائلتها وتدفئهم، ومن الخيوط القطنية ما تمنحهم به المظهر الأنيق واللطيف أثناء الحر. والحياكة فن وهواية، إلا أنه لا يكفي لاتقانه الرغبة والهواية، بل إن المرأة بحاجة إلى دليل يسهل لها الصعوبات ويبصرها بالهفوات، من خلال إرشادها إلى الطرق السليمة لحياكة ما تريده لأفراد عائلتها.
من أجل هذه الغاية سطرت المؤلفة هذا الكتاب الذي يشهد على مدى ضلوعها في فن الحياكة، كما أنه يشهد على مهارتها في توصيل المعلومات الهامة حول كيفية الحياكة بأسهل السبل وبأبسط الأساليب الخالية من التعقيد. استهلت المؤلفة كتابها بإعطائها معلومات عامة عن الحياكة ابتداء بمن أنواء وأسماء الفرزات وكيفية حياكتها وكيفية اتقانها، وهذه المقدمة أو الاستهلالة هي مهمة لأنها تمثل العنصر الأساسي لحياكة واتقان كافة الموديلات المقترحة في سائر فصول الكتاب.
انتقلت المؤلفة من ثم إلى توضيح كيفية حياكة موديلات مختلفة للأطفال الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 4 أشهر وخمسة عشر سنة لتقترح بعدها موديلات عديدة ومختلفة تناسب النساء مع شرح كيفية حياكتها ولم تنسى المؤلفة الرجل إذ أنه أخذ نصيبه في فن الحياكة وذلك من خلال الموديلات المختلفة التي قدمتها المؤلفة والمناسبة للرجال ومن ثم قدمت موديلات بالإمكان حياكتها للجنسين: رجالاً ونساءً. ساقت المؤلفة كل ذلك من خلال توضيح مستفيض حول نوع الخيط والإبرة أو السنارة والخيوط المستعملة لحياكة جميع الموديلات المبتكرة واللطيفة المقدمة مع صور تبرز نوع الفرزة والشكل النهائي لكل موديل.
