سياسة أمريكا في الشرق الأوسط، متهمة بالاستسلام لما تريده إسرائيل. في عهود معظم الرؤساء الأمريكيين، كانت تحيط الرئيس علماً بما تريده وهو يبدي موافقته، أما اقتناعاً بأن ما تقرره إسرائيل يخدم مصالح أمريكا، او يبدي اذعاناً وخضوعاً لو كان ما تفرضه إسرائيل لا يتطابق مع مصالح أمريكا.
تعددت أسباب ذلك فبعضها يتصل بالنظام الداخلي وسحابات الأصوات والتمويل والانتخابات، وضغوط قوى التأثير أو التشهير، وبعضها يرتبط بالنظام العالمي وما كان لإسرائيل فيه من وظيفة في خدمة سياسة أمريكا في العالم.
الآن هذا العالم يتغير، وأمريكا بدورها تمر بمرحلة تحول تاريخي تعيد فيه بناء سياستها الخارجية في العالم وأيضاً في الشرق الأوسط. كذلك يمر النظام الداخلي بمرحلة بحث عن الذات، في مواجهة تغيير من تقبل الرأي العالم لآلية النظام الداخلي والسياسة الخارجية. كل هذا يتقلب في بوتقة تتفاعل فيها جميع المسلمات القديمة، مع ما يلقي فيها من أفكار وخيارات جديدة. وعملية التفاعل لم تنته بعد.
