يتحدث المؤلف في هذه الدراسة الأكاديمية عن المحدث والفقيه بدر الدين العيني وذلك من خلال مقدمة وبابين، في المقدمة بين أهمية الموضوع والسبب الذي دفعه إلى اختياره، وتطرق للخطة التي اعتمدها في البحث، بعد ذلك توقف عند حيثيات الحركة العلمية في عصر العيني، فتكلم عن الحالتين السياسية والاجتماعية وفصل القول في الحركة العلمية في ذلك العصر بشتى فنونها وذكر أهم مؤلفاتها وعلمائها، وركز على بيان حركة التأليف في علمي الكتاب والسنة.
وتكلم في الباب الأول عن سيرة العيني وحياته العلمية فتطرق لـ اسم العيني ونسبه ومولده وأسرته ونشأته وطلبه للعلم، ورحلاته ثم ذكر الوظائف الرسمية التي تقلدها كما بين علاقته مع حكام ذلك العصر ثم ذكر نبذة يسيرة عن مدرسته التي خلفها والتي ما تزال قائمة إلى يومنا هذا ثم ذكر وفاته وآراء العلماء فيه، بعد هذا توقف عند مؤلفاته المطبوعة والمخطوطة الموجودة في مكتبات العالم فوثق نسبتها إليه من المصادر، وأخيراً تعرض لأهم شيوخه الذين لازمهم وتأثر بهم واستفاء منهم.
وتعرض في الباب الثاني لأثر العيني في علم الحديث فتحدث عن مؤلفاته في الحديث فبين منهجه فيها، وذكر منهجه مؤيداً ما ساقه بأمثلة تؤيد ما ذكر دون تطويل ممل أو اختصار مخل، بعد هذا تحدث عن منهجه في علم الحديث فبين منهجه فيها، وذكر أنه قد نسب إليه كتابان الأول معاني الأخيار في رجال معاني الآثار والثاني تكميل الأطراف.
