يوميات صعلوك: جان دمو في الجبهة، عمل روائي يحاكي الوهم الذي تخلفه مغردة السلم أو الحرب. استغرق من مؤلفه حسين علي يونس خمسة عشر عاماً بسبب التابوهات والموانع في السياسة والدين والمجتمع في بلده الجريح العراق.
من هنا لا تستطيع قراءة حسين علي يونس منفصلاً عن ماضيه ولا عن حاضره أيضاً. انه تشابك يخلق نصاً متميزاً. يقول لقارئه أن كل تجربة إنسانية يولدها تاريخ حافل بالعذاب والقمع والحب والكراهية...
وفي الرواية تحضر شخصية الشاعر العراق (جان دمو) الذي حاكى المؤلف ظروف حياته وأطراف من سيرته الابداعية، رغم حضوره في الرواية كشخصية افتراضية، لذلك الرجل الذي ذهب الى جبهة القتال في فترة من فترات حياته، وأمضى هناك ما يقارب الشهرين أو الثلاثة ليستوحي عنوانه الفرعي من وحي الواقعة التي مر بها جان دمو، حين كان حسين علي يونس حينها جندي مشاة في الجيش العراقي ضمن الخدمة الإلزامية، واستثمر وجوده في الجبهة في يناء هذا الكتاب الذي ينتمي الى لغة الشعر أكثر مما ينتمي الى لغة السرد، وليتناول فيه طبيعة علاقته الشخصية بجان دمو الذي عانى من عدم اعتراف الأوساط فيه، وتهميش مقصود من المؤسسات الإعلامية الرسمية العراقية في تلك الفترة من نظام الحكم السابق، في ثمانينات القرن الشعرين وحتى خروجه الى الأردن وإلى أستراليا فيما بعد.
"يوميات صعلوك" تجربة معيشة لكاتب ولشعب تحفل بالأوضاع الماضية وتطل على عذابات الحاضر، ولكنها ترسم طريقاً نحو المستقبل.
