هذا الكتاب، في حقيقة الأمر، هو الرحلة الأولى المنسية في مسيرة فدوى طوقان الإبداعية الأدبية شعراً ونثراً، وإن يكن تالياً للرحلتين الأخريين "الصعبة" و"الأصعب"، اللتين روت الشاعرة أحداثهما بنفسها؛ وهو كتابان في كتاب واحد: الأول لطفولتها الشعرية التي تيسّر منها ثلاثون نصاً مما لم تنشره في ديوانها الأول "وحدي مع الأيام"، أو في أي ديوان آخر من الدواوين التي تلته.
والآخر، للطفولة النثرية التي سبقت كتيّبها "أخي إبراهيم"، والتي تعدّ ثمانية نصوص تجمع بين "التعقيب" الأدبي واللغوي، و"المقال" النقدي الانطباعي. وتدل جميعاً على مدى اطلاع فدوى المبكر، وذوقها الفني، وحسّها الأدبي، وعلى شغفها بالأدب والمعرفة، وحرصها على تثقيف نفسها تثقيفاً ذاتياً بعد أن حرمت منه رسمياً، وعلى متابعتها الدقيقة للحركة الأدبية والعلمية في الوطن العربي آنذاك، وما كان أصعبها من متابعة!
