تمثل تربية الأطفال المبكرة في رياض الأطفال قضية في حياة الإنسان، فطفل الروضة الذي يتراوح عمره من 3-5 سنوات يمر في مرحلة حساسة من التطور الشامل لشخصيته بكل أبعادها، حيث يشكل الطفل في هذه المرحلة 50% من قواه الذهنية والإدراكية، لهذا فإن مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة تشكل قاعدة حيوية لمراحل التطور اللاحقة للفرد.
ونظراً لأهمية مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة، ودورها في التنمية الإجتماعية فيما بعد، فإن الجامعة قد أدركت أهمية تربية المعلمات لهذه المرحلة، فأخذت تفتح برامج لنيل درجة البكالوريوس في تربية الطفولة المبكرة، ولكن إعداد المربيات الملائمات للعمل في هذه المرحلة بحاجة إلى تعليم نوعي وإختيار خاص، وتدريب يتميز بالخبرة العملية في سياق خصائص الأطفال وإحتياجاتهم الفعلية ومتطلباتهم النمائية، حتى يمَّكن المربيات لهذه المرحلة من فهم الأطفال وإتقان مداخل الإتصال معهم وتربيتهم وإنماء شخصياتهم.
وفي هذا الإطار يأتي هذا الكتاب منهاجاً ونشاطاً يمثل احتوى والطريقة كما يشكل نموذجاً تعليمياً للمربية، ودليلاً يساعدها في التعرف على الفلسفة المقصودة من تربية الطفولة وأهدافها، فضلاً عن النشاطات التعليمية التي تسهم في تطوير مفاهيم الأطفال ووعيهم وإنماء شخصياتهم داخل الروضة، وكذلك دليل المربية لتعليم هذه النشاطات التعلمية، بما يتلاءم مع خصائص الأطفال النمائية.
