بما أن العنف لا يورث فهو إذن سلوك مكتسب يتعلَمه المرء أو يعايشه في خلال حياته وبخاصة في مرحلة الطفولة. فإن مورس عليه العنف سابقاً، وفي المراحل الأولى من حياته، فهو في الغالب سيمارسه لاحقاً مع غيره من الناس وحتى مع عناصر الطبيعة نباتاً كانت أو حيواناً. وبكون وسائل الإعلام من مدارس التنشئة الاجتماعية، فإننا نعتبر الشاشة الصغيرة من الوسائل الأخطر في هذا المجال لأنها الوسيلة الترفيهية التي يكاد لا يخلو منها بيت في مجتمعنا ولا تحتاج إلى معرفة للقراءة بحيث يبدأ الطفل بالانتباه إليها منذ بداية إدراكه للصوت والصورة، إضافة لما تنطوي عليه من جاذبية كوسيلة اتصال جماهيري لأن الصورة تترك أثراً سحرياً في العين التي تلتقطها وهي أبلغ وأقوى من الكلمة المقروءة أو المسموعة لأن المشاهد يكون في حالة من القابلية للتأثر من دون أن يكون بالضرورة في حالة تحريض وإثارة.
وطفل ما قبل المدرسة، وإن كان يفتقر إلى القدرة على تتبع سياق القصة ويسيء فهم نوايا ودوافع شخصياتها، إلا أنه مع ذلك ينبهر ببعض الشخصيات التي تعرض عليه ويميل إلى تقليدها. وهذا ما نراه بصورة واضحة في اللعب الإيهامي الذي يمارسه أطفالنا.
كما أن الصوت والصورة يلعبان دوراً مهماً في عمليات التثقيف واستدخال معايير وسلوكيات في نظام حياة الفرد وبخاصة إذا كان للتكرار والإصرار في إبراز فكرة أو صورة دورٌ يُخطط له. مما يعني أن التلفزيون يؤثَر فينا رغماً عنا ويعيد تشكيل شخصيتنا من الداخل سلباً وإيجاباً. لذا فهو بحق كما يلقبونه بالوالد الثالث بحيث يلي في مرتبته مرتبة الأم والأب. إنه يشارك في مسؤولية إعداد الأطفال وفي تربيتهم. وكذلك يمكن اعتباره، إذا أسيء توظيفه، جرثومة العصر التي صدّرها الغرب لتفتك بأجيالنا وحتى بأجيال من صدّرها.
