هذا الكتاب وإن كان يؤرخ للعلاقة بين اثنين من أشهر السياسيين الذين عرفتهم مصر، سعد زغلول باشا وعدلي يكن باشا، إلا أنه يصعب توصيفه بأنه عمل تاريخي تقليدي، فصاحبه، الأستاذ عمرو سميح طلعت، لم يدع بطول كتابه أنه مؤرخ محترف؛ الأمر الذي أدى إلى تحرره من القيود الأكاديمية التي يضعها هؤلاء على ضمائرهم. بيد أنه على الجانب الآخر فقد اتسمت لغة الكتاب بأسلوب أدبي رفيع لا يتوفر عند كثيرين من محترفي الكتابة التاريخية، حتى أنه يصعب على القارئ الذواقة إذا ما بدأ قراءته أن يتركه من بين يديه.
ولعل أهمية العلاقة بين سعد زغلول وعدلي يكن التي حاول مؤلف هذا الكتاب، الأستاذ عمرو سميح طلعت، أن يكشف اللثام عنها، أمر يستحق الاهتمام من المعنيين بالتاريخ الوطني الحديث، على أن يكون بداية لفتح باب جديد لكشف مزيد من الجوانب في «أثر العلاقات الشخصية على السياسة المصرية في التاريخ الحديث»، ولن تكون العلاقة بين زغلول ويكن أو بين النحاس ومكرم الوحيدتين اللتين انتهتا بما يشبه الكوارث الوطنية، وهو الأمر الذي نختلف فيه مع العالم المتقدم الذي تحتل فيه العلاقات الشخصية جانبا محدودا في صنع السياسات، وتبقى العلاقات الموضوعية التي تقوم على الإيمان بالبرامج والكفاءة الشخصية التي تخدم هذه البرامج!
