تعتبر هذه الدراسة الأولى من نوعها في اللغة العربية، وربما بأية لغة أجنبية، عن الحكاية الشعبية الفلسطينية وهي تضم بين سطورها ستة دراسات جاء أولها كمدخل هدفه توضيح معالم الحكاية الشعبية في مجال البحث الفولكلوري. كما وسعى لتوضيح البناء الفني للحكاية الشعبية ووحدات قياسها وروايتها وفكرة الزمان والمكان كما عكستها النصوص. ثم انتقل الفصل لدراسة صورة البطل في الحكايات وموقعة الطبقي من الجماعات التي ينتمي غليها، وكان لا بد في نهاية هذا الفصل من دراسة تصور الشعب للسلطة والسلطان عبر المأثورات المروية.
وفي الفصل الثاني تم دراسة حكايات الخوارق وبالتالي تم التحدث عن حكايات الغيلان وحكايات الجن والعفاريت ثم الحكايات المتعلقة بالسحر. وجاء الفصل الثالث رسم ملامح المرأة في الحياة الشعبية وذلك عبر الاستعانة بواقع صورتها في نصوص الحكايات موضوع الدراسة سواء أكانت هذه المرأة أماً أم أختاً، امرأة وفية أن امرأة خائنة، قوية الشخصية، أم ضعيفة مستكينة لجبروت الرجل.
وفي الفصلين الرابع والخامس تم استقراء الحكاية المرحة وحكاية الحيوان بما في ذلك الرمز الذي يستتر وراء شخصية الحيوان الذي تصرف بتصرف الآدميين في الحكاية الشعبية وفي الفصل السادس تم استعراض الإرث الأسطوري كما تناولته الحكايات التي تناولت حياة الآلهة والرسل والأنبياء والأولياء الصالحين وأخيراً تم إثبات مجموعة من النصوص كما سجلت من أفواه رواتها الأصليين.
