في هذا الكتاب تأكيد على الحق في احترام الحياة الخاصة والذي تعتبر الآن ضمن الحقوق الأساسية للإنسان، تقربه الموائيق الدولية والتشريعات الوطنية ويؤكده القضاء. وهذا الكتاب يدور حول إمكانية الحديث عن حماية الحياة الخاصة للعامل في إطار حياته المهنية في ظل بيئته العمل التي تحظى فيها التكنولوجيا الحديثة بمظاهرها المختلفة بمثل هذا الحق فهل يمكن الحديث عن خصوصية للعامل في المكان الذي هو ملك لصاحب العمل، وفيه يخضع العامل للإلتزام بأوامره وبأداء العمل المنوط به تحت إدارته وإشرافه وتوجيهه. وإذا كانت الإجابة بالإيجاب هي التي تقرها القوانين، فهل يمكن الحديث في إطار علاقة العمل عن نقطة توازن بين حق العامل في الخصوصية والمقتضيات المرتبطة بفعالية الكشروع، أو المنشأة وبنجاحه؟ كيف يمكن التوصل إلى هذا الهدف في إطار عقد جوهره الخضوع لسلطة صاحب العمل؟ تكمن الإشكالية إذاً في البحث عن إمكانية التوفيق بين هذا الحق الأساسي للعامل في أن تحترم خصوصيته، مع خضوعه لصاحب العمل، أي التوفيق بين أمرين ظاهرهما التعارض، الخصوصية المعترف بها للعامل من ناحية، وتبعيته المهنية من ناحية أخرى. فما هو مدى ملاءمة النصوص وكفايتها لتحقيق هذا الهدف في مواجهة هذه الوسائل. إضافة إلى ذلك تتناول هذه الحماية مرحلة الترشيح للعمل، أي المرحلة السابقة على إبرام عقد العمل هذا ويعتمد الباحث في إطار هذه المقارنة وبصفة خاصة على التشريع والقضاء الفرنسي لما يمثلانه من تجربة قانونية هامة يمكن من خلالها تقدير مدى كفاية النصوص النافذة في القانون المصري ومدى علاقتها لحماية الحياة الخاصة للعامل في مواجهة مظاهر التكنولوجيا الحديثة.
لأجل ذلك يقسم هذا الكتاب إلى فصلين: الفصل الأول: المراقبة العامة لأداء العامل وحماية الحياة الخاصة، الفصل الثاني: المراقبة من خلال كاميرا الفيديو وحماية حياة العامل الخاصة.
