كتاب لاغنى عنه للمختصين في اللغة العربية خاصة علم النحو حيث تضمن هذا المجلد شرحاً مسهباً لفكرة الزمن النحوي والصرفي في اللغة العربية ذلك أن الزمن النحوي ارتبط وثيقا بقواعد النحو فتقسيم الجملة إلى اسمية وفعلية جاء بناء على الزمن وفكرته.
وعليه، جاء البحث في تمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، حيث بين التمهيد أهمية الزمن، ودوره في اللغة العربية، وتدخله في هيكلتها وأبوابها النحوية، وموقعه في أذهان علماء النحو، وفي الفصل الأول جاء الحديث عن الزمن بنوعيه الصرفي والنحوي، أي زمن الفعل المفرد، وزمن الجملة بمجموع مكوناتها.
وفي الفصل الثاني كان الحديث عن مفهوم الجهة في فكرة الزمن، وعن القرائن التي يمكن أن تدخل الجملة العربية فتوجه الزمن فيها توجيهاً معيناً، أما الفصل الثالث فقد جاء دراسة لأساليب الكلام العربي، أو أساليب الجملة العربية، أما الخاتمة فقد أبرز فيها المؤلف أهم القضايا التي وصلت إليها الدراسة.
