يتناول منهج البحث العلمي بمفهومه وخصائصه والبحث التربوي وطبيعته ومشكلاته وأخلاقياته وكيفية إعداد مخطط البحث ووسائل جمع المادة العلمية وأنواع مناهج البحث العلمي ووسائله وأدواته وعينات البحث وأسلوب تحليل المحتوى وصياغة وتوثيق تقرير البحث مع مراجع مختارة في مناهج البحث.
قسم المؤلف كتابه إلى ثمانية فصول؛ الأول تناول منهج البحث العلمي من حيث المفهوم، مفصلاً بالتعريف، موضحاً آراء العلماء في التفكير العلمي، متناولاً دور الحاسوب في خدمة البحث. وخصص الفصل الثاني للحديث عن البحث التربوي في مفهومه وطبيعته ومشكلاته وأخلاقياته والأخطاء الكامنة فيه. وتحدث في الفصل الثالث عن إعداد مخطط البحث وعناصره والتصميم المنهجي للبحث. وبيَّن في الفصل الرابع وسائل الحصول على المادة العلمية والطرائق المفيدة في ذلك، وشرح في أثناء ذلك عدداً من الطرائق كالقراءة والتدوين والاقتباس والملاحظة والتجربة. وعرض في الفصل الخامس أنواع البحوث والمعايير التي تصنف على أساسها المناهج البحثية، وأشار إلى البحث الوصفي والبحث التاريخي والبحث التجريبي. وشرح في الفصل السادس أدوات البحث العلمي التي تختلف من عمل إلى آخر؛ من أجهزة القياس إلى أدوات الفحص إلى إجراء الاختبار إلى استمارات الاستفتاء وغير ذلك. وعالج في الفصل السابع مفهوم العينة والمجتمع، والطرائق في اختيار العينات، وتقدير الحجم المناسب للعينة وأثره في مدى الثقة بنتائج البحث. ووقف في الفصل الثامن الأخير عند أسلوب تحليل المحتوى في نشأته ومفهومه، ثم كيفية كتابة تقرير البحث وخصوصاً فيما يتعلق بعرض النتائج وتفسيرها وكتابة التوصيات والمقترحات، وكتابة المراجع والتوثيق واستخدام الحواشي.
