هذا الكتاب حول "أصحاب محمد ودورهم في نشأة الإسلام" دراسة معمقة وذكية آخذة تماماً بكل مسالك المنهجية العلمية، وقد كان في الأصل أطروحة دكتوراه ناقشتها "حياة عمامو" التي عرفت عنها كطالبة الجدية.
وبعد فالموضوع مهم من وجهين إثنين: كونه يتطرق إلى نشأة دين عظيم -الإسلام- قلما تطرق إليها العرب المحدثون، ولأن الدراسة تناولت هذه النشأة من زاوية معينة، مدققة لم يتناولها إلا قليلاً الباحثون من مسلمين ومستشرقين على حد سواء، فقد انصب اهتمامهم على الشخصية النبوية المركزية بداهة، وأهملوا من حف بها من أصحاب ورفاق بنوا معه رعايته الإسلام ديناً وأمة ودولة.
ولئن اختارت الباحثة مثل هذا الموضوع فلا يعني أنها لم تلم بالسيرة النبوية وكل مسار الدين الناشئ، فهذا أمر ضروري، لارتباط العضو بالكل ارتباطاً حميماً، وإنما محاولة الكشف عن هوية ودور الصحابة جاءت لتعميق البحث بخصوص عنصر من العناصر بات إلى حد الآن في شبه ضبابية، ومشروع الدراسة مطروح من الأول حيث تقول عمامو: "إن الإشكالية تتمثل في البحث عن ماهية الصحبة والصحابة والدور الذي قام به أصحاب النبي في تركيز الإسلام في الفترة النبوية والعلاقات التي ربطتهم بالنبي وربطت بينهم وبين أطراف أخرى تعايشوا معها". حسناً صنعت الباحثة حيث دمجت بين هذا المخطط المنطقي وبين الحس التاريخي التطوري، كما يجدر بنا أن ننوه بسعة إطلاعها على المصادر وأكثر من ذلك حسن استعمالها مع التركيز على المصدر الرئيسي: القرآن.
