يسرني أن أقدم للقارئ العربي الكريم كتابي "الأمراض العقلية والنفسية" متضمنًا عرضًا لأهم الأمراض النفسية والعقلية والانحرافات السلوكية ومظاهر الشذوذ في سلوك الإنسان، مع الإشارة إلى أسبابها الجسمية أو الوراثية والبيئية المكتسبة، وكذلك أسبابها الميلادية أو الولادية، أو تلك العوامل التي توجد عند ميلاد الطفل، وليس من الضروري أن تكون منقولة إليه من الآباء والأجداد عبر ناقلات الوراثة أو الجينات، ومن ذلك صدمات أو صعوبات الميلاد، والإصابات التي تحدث لدماغ الطفل أثناء الولادة، وكذلك جميع المؤثرات التي تتعرض لها الأم الحامل أثناء الحمل، وتؤثر على سلامة الطفل وعلى صحته، ومن ذلك تعرض الأم للإشعاعات والتلوث، أو إدمانها الخمور أو المخدرات، أو ممارستها الرياضة العنيفة أو تعرضها لبعض الأمراض مثل الحصبة الألمانية أو أمراض فقر الدم والأنيميا أو تعاطي الأم الحامل في الشهور الأولى من الحمل لبعض العقاقير والأدوية دون استشارة الطبيب وما إلى ذلك مما يؤثر على سلامة الطفل.
ويستعرض الكتاب لأهم الأمراض النفسية أو الأعصبة النفسية ونظريات تفسيرها، وعلى وجه الخصوص الأمراض الآتية: عصاب الفوبيا أو المخاوف الشاذة أو المخاوف المرضية، عصاب الهستيريا، عصاب القلق، عصاب الوسواس القهري، الاكتئاب، توهم المرض، وكذلك الأمراض أو الذهانات العقلية مثل: ذهان الاكتئاب، ذهان فصام الشخصية، ذهان الاضطهاد والعظمة، ذهانات الشيخوخة، مرض الزهايمر، وذلك إلى جانب الإشارة إلى الشذوذ الجنسي والانحراف السلوكي وإدمان الخمور أو المخدرات ويلقي الكتاب الضوء على هذه الاضطرابات موضحًا أسبابها وأعراضها وطرق تشخيصها وكيفية علاجها.
