الإنسان كائن إجتماعي يرتبط بالآخرين في إطار علاقة إجتماعية قوامها الميل إلى التوحد بالجماعة، والحب، والتعاطف، والتعاون، مع أفرادها.
فالمرء في حاجة إلى أن يشعر أنه فرد من مجموع تربطه بهم مصالح مشتركة تدفعه إلى أن يأخذ ويعطي وأن يلتمس منهم الحماية والمساعدة؛ فالألفة التي تخلقها المحبة داخل الأسرة تنقلب إلى ولاء لهذا المجتمع الصغير، ثم تنتقل إلى الحاجة إلى الإنتماء للجماعات الأخرى التي يجد فيها الطفل إشباع حاجته إلى الأمن العاطفي.
لذا، يعد الإهتمام برعاية الطفولة وتربيتها من المعايير التي يقاس بها تقدم الأمم وتطورها، وهنا يأتي دور المدرسة والتي تعتبر وحدة إجتماعية وتربوية عليها أن تلتزم بتنظيم معياري يحقق لها مهمتها في يسر ونجاح، كما أن المدرسة هي المسؤولة عن تربية الأبناء في مراحل أعمارهم المختلفة، وتنشئتهم في ظروف مواتية تنمي فيها أجسامهم، وترعى صحتهم وترسخ في فترة تعليمهم القيم الأخلاقية التي يعتز بها المجتمع والتي تكون الدرع الواقي لهم ضد الإنحرافات السلوكية، فهي تؤكد عندهم الإتجاهات الإيجابية لحب الخير والجمال وإقامة العلاقات الإجتماعية السوية والإنتماء مع أفراد وزملاء يؤمنون بنفس القيم ويحققون ذواتهم من خلال الثقة التي يمتلكونها بأنفسهم، فمسؤولية غرس الإنتماء والثقة بالذات لدى جيل الطلبة لا بد أن يشارك فيها كافة المربين من أولياء أمور ومعلمين وغيرهم.
ومن هنا، جاء في هذا الكتاب دراسة توضح علاقة الإنتماء بتقدير الذات لدى هذه الفئة.
وقد تم تطبيق أدوات جميع البيانات على طلبة الصف الخامس الأساسي من مرحلة التعليم الأساسي، التي تعد المرحلة العمرية التي يكون فيها الطالب بحاجة إلى إستيضاح إتجاهاته وتوجهاته القيمية.
