إن موضوع اللهو والترويح من الموضوعات الحية، التى عرفها الناس فى شتى البلدان ، ومارسوها فى مختلف الأزمان ، ودخلت حياة الناس في هذا العصر بقوة ، وأمسوا يواجهون منها صنوفا وألوانا ، منها ما هو من جنس الرياضيات ، ومنها ما هو من جنس الفنون، ومنها ما هو من جنس الشعوذة وخفة اليد. والناس إزاء هذه الصنوف والألوان من اللهو والترفيه ، يسألون: ما حكم الشرع فى هذه الأنواع كلها ، والممارسات المختلفة باختلاف الأقطار والبيئات والمذاهب والفلسفات ، وقبل ذلك اختلاف الديانات والحضارات : أهو حلال أم حرام ؟ وتفاوتت الإجابات - كما هي العادة- من أهل الفتوي : بين مضيق وموسع ، وبين مشدد وميسر ، بل بين من يسرف فى التشديد والتضيق ، حتى يكاد يجعل كل شيء حراما ، ومن يسرف فى الترخيص والتسهيل حتى يكاد يجعل كل شيئ حلالا. إزاء هذه القضايا بين فضيلة العلامة الشيخ يوسف القرضاوي : حكم الشرع مدللا وموثقا ، سالكا المنهج الوسط للأمة الوسط، لا غلو ولا تفريط ، لا طغيان فى الميزان ، ولا إخسار فى الميزان. ويعتبر هذا الكتاب تتمة لكتاب" فقه الغناء والموسيقي" فما الغناء وما يصحبه من آلات إلا جزء من اللهو والترفية.
