لقد تكفلت هذه الدراسة بتقديم رؤية تحليل نقدية موازنة لشعر المرأة في العصر العباسي من خلال الوعي بالحضارة التنويرية التي ازدهرت وعمت الحياة الثقافية والفنية والاجتماعية وكانت المرأة في موضع القلب من هذه الحضارة والمحركة لكثير من أنشطتها داخل القصور وخلف الستائر المخملية بإلهامها وإبداعها أيضاً!
إن الجديد في هذا البحث أنه يقدم صورة مشرفة وضيئة للمرأة في العصر العباسي ويكشف عن الدور الذي قامت به في الحياة الثقافية والسياسية والاجتماعية والفنية، ويضيء جوانب عديدة من التطور الحضاري الذي شمل الحياة العباسية من خلال الكشف عن مدى إسهام المرأة فيه.
كما أنه يسلط الأضواء على المرأة الشاعرة في هذا العصر فيجمع شعرها في مختلف الأغراض ويتناوله بالدراسة والتحليل ويعقد موازنة بين شعر الحرائر وشعر الجواري ويثبت خصائص كل منهن ومدى تأثر تجربتهن الشعرية بحياتهن، وفي سبيل تحقيق هذه الغاية تعرض لدراسة المعنى والعاطفة والأسلوب ومدى حظ المرأة من الابتكار مركزاً على السمات الأنثوية في شعرها والتي ترجع إلى طبيعة تكوينها النفسي، وإن كانت هذه السمات لم ترق بها إلى مستوى الخلق والابتكار، حيث أثبت هذا البحث تفوق الرجل على المرأة في الأغراض الشعرية التي عالجها كل منهما من حيث ابتكارالمعاني والتفنن في المقال والقدرة على التصوير والأغراق في الخيال.
ولقد اقتضت طبيعة هذه الدراسة أن تتكون من ثلاثة أبواب هي: الباب الأول: حياة المرأة، الباب الثاني: شعر المرأة، الباب الثالث: خصائص شعر المرأة.
