منذ الصفحات الأولى لكتاب " لله .. ثم للتاريخ " يوضح مؤلفه السيد حسين الموسوي قصته والغاية من فكرة الكتاب بأنه " رواية صيغت على شكل بحث ، قلتها بلساني ، وقيدتها ببناني قصدت بها وده الله ونفع إخواني ما دمت حياً قبل أن أدرج في أكفاني " يوضح المؤلف أن كتابه جاء بناءً على طلب واحد من أبناء النظام العراقي البائد لأجل العمل على مشروع ضرب الحوزة وتسقيط رموزها ونسف جذور التشيع وإفقاد الثقة بعلماء الشيعة ورموزهم وعلى رأسهم الخميني ، وضربهم من الداخل من خلال إثارة الشبهات بطريقة علمية غير مباشرة ، وتبيان نشأة الشيعة والتشيع على حقيقتها ، ومواجهة الخطر الشيعي الذي يدعي - وفقاً للمؤلف - الإنتساب إلى أهل البيت رضوان الله عليهم للتأثير في عقول وقلوب ضعاف الناس ... وأن يوضع إسم مؤلف شيعي يفضح من خلاله علماءهم وعقائدهم وأن يكون من السادة وخريج حوزة ، وموقع الإختيار على إسم السيد حسين الموسوي . وذلك لإشعار الشيعة بضعف مذهبهم ولكي يعلموا أن علماءهم تركوا هذا المذهب وأقروا ببطلانه .
في الكتاب يتوجه المؤلف إلى القارىء بالقول : " ... ولتعلم أخي القارىء أني حينما ألّفت الجزء الأول من هذا الكتاب لم أختر إسم السيد حسين الموسوي عبثاً فإن إسمي الحقيقي هو حسين ، وأن نسي يرجع إلى الإمام موسى الكاظم رضوان الله عليه ، فنحن عائلة من الأشراف ، أو كما يقول الشيعة من السادة ، ( ... ) . وفي نهاية الكتاب أريد أن أعلن للقارىء الكريم بأنني وبعد بحث طويل قد توصلت إلى أن التمسك بأهل البيت رضي الله عنهم وأرضاعهم فريضة أمرنا بها الله ورسوله في الكتاب والسُّمة ، ويكفينا في ذلك حديث الثقلين ... " .
