في عصرنا هذا بات من الصعب أن تركن إلى جيل يتقن العربية أو ليس لديه لحن فيها، فكان لا بد من عودة إلى أصولها كي نحافظ على هذه اللغة ذات الحضارة والعراقة وذلك من خلال مراجع لغوية تساير وقدر الإمكان وتيرة هذا العصر الذي ألف فيه الطالب المختصر من الكتب حيث يصعب عليه مثلاً العودة إلى أمهات الكتب والمطولات في سبيل الوصول إلى قواعد اللغة ونحوها وغير ذلك فكان هذا الكتاب "منجد الطلاب" الذي يعتبر معيناً للطالب في اللغة العربية من نحو وإعراب وبلاغة وإملاء وقواعد القراءة. وعلى الرغم من صغر حجم هذا الكتاب إلا أنه احتوى على كمّ وافر من المعلومات التي تفيد الطالب في متابعته لأصول اللغة العربية وقواعدها، وقد جاءت ضمن أسلوب واضح إذ أن المؤلف سعى إلى تبسيط هذه المادة التي يصعب على الطالب العودة إليها من خلال المؤلفات القديمة.
إلى جانب ذلك راعى المؤلف تزويد الطالب باستهلال قدّم من خلاله لمحة عن علم الأصوات وعلم الصرف والنحو وأسماؤها وحروف الهجاء والألفباء الأبجدية وحساب الجمل لينتقل من ثم إلى بيان حروف المبنى والحركات والصحيح والمعتل الحركة وحرف المدّ ثم الحروف القمرية والشمسية والتفخيم والترقيق وثم بيان ما للألف من حالات ترقيقاً ومداً وثم الهمزة وحالاتها الإملائية ليغوص بعدها في بيان الفعل وحالاته وإعراباته وكذلك الاسم. ولم ينس التركيز على الإملاء والبلاغة وقواعد القراءة أثناء سوقه للأمثلة التي أغنت مادة الكتاب وساعدت على توضيح ما يمكن أن يستعصي على الطالب في كل المسائل اللغوية.
