الميكانيك الكمي هو طريقة قياس لجميع الظواهر الفيزياوية على المستوى العياني والمجهري، وفي هذا الإطار يأتي الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا والذي يتحدث عن بعض مفاهيم الميكانيك الكمي، فيتطرق الفصل الأول إلى أسباب انهيار الفيزياء الكلاسيكية وخاصة في تفسير التفاعل بين إعادة الإشعاع الكهرومغناطيسي، كذلك يوضح هذا الفصل المبادئ الأساسية للميكانيك ويتطرق بشكل مفصل إلى معادلة شرودنجر ونظرية إيرنفيست.
ويوضح الفصل الثاني حركة الجسيمات في اتجاه واحد. إذ يتم حل معادلة شرودنجر المستقلة عن الزمن لآبار الجهد والحواجز البسيطة وذلك للحصول على دالة الموجة ومستويات الطاقة للجسيم. ويتعرض الفصل الثالث إلى المتذبذب التوافقي الخطي حيث يتم معالجته بعدة طرائق من أجل الحصول على دالة الموجة التي تصف حركة المتذبذب الخطي وكذلك على مستويات الطاقة التي يتواجد فيها المتذبذب الخطي.
ويفسر الفصل الرابع النظرية الكمية لذرة الهيدروجين من خلال إيجاد دالة الموجة التي تصف حركة الإلكترون في المدارات الذرية وكذلك الحصول على مستويات الطاقة التي يمكن أن يتواجد فيها الإلكترون. هذا بالإضافة إلى مقارنة نتائج النظرية الكمية بنتائج النظريات الكلاسيكية حول ذرة الهيدروجين.
في حين يوضح الفصل الخامس دراسة تفصيلية لتأثير المجالات المغناطيسية على ذرة الهيدروجين عند وضعها فيها. كذلك يتم التطرق إلى الحركة المغزلية للإلكترون في الذرة وإعطاء تمثيل جديد لوصف الحركة من خلال تمثيل ديراك (Dirac).
ويتحدث الفصل الأخير عن نظرية الاضطراب المستقرة وغير المستقرة للحالات المنحلة وغير المنحلة بشكل مفصل ودقيق. أخيراً يتضمن الكتاب العديد من اأمثلة المحلولة في نهاية كل فصل كل تساعد الطالب على فهم المادة العلمية من جهة وحل تمارين نهاية الفصل من جهة أخرى.
